Computer Models Building Industry in Europe

COMBINE I & II were European funded R&D projects implementing and integrating prototype applications (architectural & energy -related) for building product modeling. COMBINE II was finished in May 1995. COMBINE was one of the pioneering projects implementing STEP product data technology.

Abstract (CORDIS): The project is a follow-up to the COMBINE (Computer Models for the Building Industry in Europe) JOULE project which ended in 1992. By building on the outcomes of the first phase, COMBINE-2 aimed to combine both phases into an operational integrated system. This would allow the energy performance, services, and functional characteristics of a planned building to be analysed. The research programme concentrated on establishing both a data infrastructure and the necessary tools for managing the information exchange in a building design team. The main target was to smoothly combine a number of state-of-the-art energy and HVAC consultants tools into an integrated environment. The interacting design tools are based on a configuration of existing tools used for costing, HVAC-CAD, components databases, daylighting and energy, CEN standards and building regulations. The ultimate goal was to demonstrate fficiency improvements within the design process, and related energy-efficiency improvements for future planned buildings.
