Terve Vera - Healthy and Productive Building

Vera and Healthy Building technology programme's seminar, October 17th 2002

Vera and Healthy Building technology programmes celebrated their last year in the joint top seminar. In the seminar the main theme was the productivity of the real estate from the point of view of the healthy building and the lifecycle thinking. The presentations examined internationally interesting topics from the field of real estate and construction and results achieved in the technology programmes. The seminar was international and all the presentations were in English.

The head speakers of the joint sessions of the seminar were director general Aulis Kohvakka, Senate Properties, Vice President Ben Schwegler, Walt Disney Imagineering, architect Hal Levin, Building Ecology Research Group, and Global Facilities Development Manager Laura Hill, Nokia Real Estate&Facilities.

The Vera programme started in 1997. Its objective was to manage the building information throughout its entire lifecycle. One of the central focus areas of the programme has been the active participation in the developing of the international product model standard for a real estate and building industry. This 'virtual building' serves as the integrated data storage and will enable the sharing and integrated use of the information in all the processes for the whole lifecycle of the building. Vera session of the seminar included, among others, speakers like professor Martin Fischer, CIFE/Stanford University, Head of Strategy & Learning David Hall, BAA, Director of Corporate Planning Sakari Toikkanen, YIT PLC and managing director Heikki Kulusjärvi, Solibri Oy.

Healthy Building programme started one year later, in 1998 and its objective was the improvement of the indoor air and the health properties of the building. The development of the healthy building requires the cooperation of many branches. The research is both interdisciplinary and international. Healthy Building session of the seminar included, among others, presentations of professor Derek Clements-Croome, University of Reading and professor Olli Seppänen, Helsinki University of Technology.
